OEWRI students attended the AAG National Conference in New Orleans, LA from April 10-15, 2018 where MSU students Joe Nash, Dylan King, Hannah Adams, Leah Bournival, and Madelyn Behlke-Entwisle represented the West Lakes Division AAG in the annual World Geography Bowl Tournament.

OEWRI attended the Missouri Natural Resources Conference from January 31st-February 2nd. It was great seeing everyone there and we can't wait to see you next year!
OEWRI students presented posters:
- Hannah Adams: Geospatial analysis of bank erosion for conservation planning, Lamar Lake Watershed, MO.
- Heather Moule: Nutrient transport in a karst spring-reservoir system during baseflow, Springfield, Missouri.
- Joe Nash: Geomorphic response to engineered log structures after a catastrophic flood event, North Fork of the White River.
- Kelly Rose: Neighborhood history on metal concentrations in roadside soils and street dusts, Springfield, Missouri.

David Huggins, Adam Mulling, and Karen Zelzer presented posters at the Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers held in Chicago on April 21-25, 2015. Adam won first place in the student poster competition in the Water Resources Specialty Group for "Historical changes of sediment phosphorus in a river-lake system due to improvements in wastewater treatment".

Marc Owen presented “Decade of Watershed Science and Application in Southwest Missouri” at the 2014 Water Challenges and Opportunities symposium in celebration of 50th Anniversary of Missouri Water Resources Research Center on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia sponsored by Mizzou Advantage & the Chancellor’s Distinguished Speakers Program. Bob Pavlowsky and Judy Meyer took a summer class to Yellowstone National Park to work towards photographing and digitally mapping a historical hiking trail. Dr. Meyer received funding for the Anne White award from the Association of American Geographers.

Bob Pavlowsky received the CNAS Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, and the College of Natural and Applied Sciences also distributed the Atwood Research and Teaching Award to him (This award recognizes his work in teaching and in presenting his research).

Graduate students Tylene Coonts, Virgil Cane, Aubree Vaughan, Kris Breckenridge, Ezekiel Kuehn, and Andrea Mayus participated in the 20th Annual Graduate Interdisciplinary Forum held on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Ezekiel received an outstanding poster award for his study entitled “Contributions of Stream Bank Erosion to Sediment Loads in a Southwest Missouri River.”

Kris Breckenridge won first place in the student poster competition for her thesis research, “Field-Based Measurements of Bed-Load Transport in an Urban Stream in the Missouri Ozarks."

Dr. Pavlowsky and Research Specialist II Marc Owen recently attended the Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers Annual Conference in Asheville, North Carolina, Nov. 18-20. Dr. Pavlowsky presented a paper titled "Sediment PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon) Contamination in an Urban Watershed and the Influence of Coal-tar Sealant Sources," co-authored by Owen and graduate student Daniel Williams. Owen presented a poster titled "Local-Scale Variations in Floodplain Contamination by Historical Mining in the Old Lead Belt, SE Missouri," co-authored by Pavlowsky.

Kyle received 1st place for the Best Student Poster Presentation while Lindsay took a close 2nd.

Andrew Dewitt received the 2011 Reds Wolman Student Research Award from the Geomorphology Specialty Group for, "Downstream changes in channel morphology and stream power in an Ozarks Watershed, Southwest Missouri."

Ben Young won second place in the poster contest for "Remobilization of Mining Contaminated Sediment within Disturbance Zones along the Lower Big River, Eastern Missouri."

The annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers was held in Washington D.C. April 13-18, 2010. W. Patrick Dryer, a Master's student and OEWRI graduate assistant won the Best Graduate Student Presentation award for the Geomorphology Specialty Group. Ben Young, a Masters's student with the department of Geography and Geology at MSU, also won the Best Graduate Student Presentation award for the Water Resources Speciality Group (WRSG).
