Phase I First Flush Storm Water Samplers
Five samplers were placed at each Phase I site to collect the first flush (Figures 1 and 2). Samplers consist of 4” UV resistant PVC tubes mounted to galvanized steel tracks with stainless steel hose clamps. The sample bottle is a 1 liter wide-mouth amber glass bottle with a hollow high density polyethylene (HDPE) ball and cap with a hole to allow inflow of water. As the sample collects, the ball rises and seals the opening to prevent dilution from further runoff. Use of an amber glass bottle is compliant with the parameters associated with this project.
Phase II Nalgene ® 1100 Storm Water Sampler and 1160 Mounting Kit
One Nalgene® storm water sampler was placed at each of the Phase II sites to collect the first flush (Figure 3). The sampler mount consists of a UV stabilized high-density polyethylene tube mounted to a 24” steel stake using a hose clamp, and a sample bottle. Water flows through the collection funnel into a 1 liter high density polyethylene (HDPE) Nalgene® sample bottle. When the bottle is full, a floating ball seals off the sample collection port. When samples are retrieved, the collection funnel is removed and replaced with a standard closure for transportation to the laboratory. Use of an HDPE bottle is compliant with the parameters associated with this project.
